I've had gamefly on and off for abour 5 years. And I can say that it has NEVER been as terrible as it is now. Surprisingly, I don't have problems with shipping times, given that I live about an hour from the shipping center. I get my games in about a day or two.
No. My big complaint is that I never get the games in the order that I put them on my queue. Just now, I got Gears of War 2 shipped to me. That game was number 5 in my queue. Now, I understand the concept of availability. However the confirmation email states that the game wasn't available at my shipping center and that It'll ship from Austin instead.
Now this is where it gets weird....you mean to tell me that not only are the first 5 games on my queue not available, but the game you DO decide to send isn't available from my primary center?? So, if the game isn't available from my shipping center, why not move to the next game on my queue, like you did for the first five fucking games on my queue.
Apparently, instead of "striving to get the games you want" like they constantly preach, they just look at your queue, see what game has the highest availability and ship that, to hell with you're queue order.
Ugh...are there any other decent services out there?

...I have FINALLY joined the current generation and got my paws on an Xbox 360. So far it's pretty awesome. I've rented Street Fighter IV from gamefly and am currently demolishing the competition.
This generation is pretty interesting though. Last generation, Sony was on top while Nintendo was on the bottom. Microsoft was somewhere in the middle. Now Nintendo is on top when it comes to sales, Microsoft is on top when it comes to quality and Sony is wondering what the hell happened.
Oh well. Can't really complain too much. As arrogant as Sony has been this time around, it's good to see them on the bottom for once.
Gamefly, what the HELL happened to you?

I've been with Gamefly on and off since 03 and I generally didn't have any problems with them.
I resubscribed with them in November and I've had three hiccups so far. The first one wasn't really their fault. I had reported a game as missing since it had been about a week. They were in the process of shipping a new copy when I received the first game in the mail. So I let them know, but since they were already shipping my game, I ended up with two copies of the same game. No big deal.
Second hiccup was when I noticed that sometimes, my queue would be out of order when they receive a game. No biggie. I just reordered it, thinking it was a glitch.
Today was the biggest hiccup so far. I see they received a game I sent and I checked my queue to make sure it was in order. It was. I had Final Fantasy X on my number one slot. So everything's fine right? Wrong. I check back in a few hours and see that Final Fantasy X-2, which was in the second spot in my queue, was shipping instead, despite the fact that Final Fantasy X was "Available Now." To add insult to injury, FFX-2 wasn't at my shipping center in Pittsburgh and instead shipped from LA. So now I have to wait two more days for a game I didn't even want yet.
Needless to say, I fired off a complaint, so we'll see how it's taken care of.

They prominently displayed their phone number and I remember one occasion in which they conference called my bank to see why they were taking out too much money. (Long story there.) I also remember when I could just set games in my queue and forget about them, reordering them only when I wanted them to ship in a different order, or when a new game came out.
Now they've become this huge corporate sellout. The only way you can contact them is through e-mail (I can't stand when companies don't even acknowledge that you might want to call them), the queue is fucked up to the point where you have to make sure everything is in order whenever a game is returned, and they've just lost their "gamer" feel altogether.
It's really quite sad. If this keeps up, I'll have to take my business elsewhere.

I figured I would dial down my last post slightly. I had mentioned that in it's own way, the GOTY thing COULD make sense depending on how you do the awards.
However, I still stand by the bias. Not against Sarcastic Gamer as a whole, but just the writer of that article. Some other forum members have called him out on it, but of course we won't get an answer probably, since there's no way to really explain it without credibility.

X-Play's Game of the Year pick and the aftermath

Figured I'd start the first post of this blog with a rant...
First off, the post that started this mess.
X-play pwns themselves with stupid GOTY pick
Now let's be clear. I don't like X-play by any stretch of the imagination. They are biased pricks who will give a game a low rating simply because they don't like the genre, then they will adapt a "We don't care" attitude.
However, the logic behind the above post is just plain stupid. Apparently a game MUST win it's category in order to win the game of the year. I have NEVER heard of that logic for ANY awards I've seen. Normally the criteria for each category is different. "____ of the year" isn't determined by the winners of the other categories. This isn't the NFL playoffs.
Still, I suppose I could see how someone could think that. However crazy it may seem, perhaps some gaming awards work like that...none that I've ever seen, but whatever.
It gets better though. Sarcastic Gamer started a "100 moments of 2008" countdown. Okay, every gaming site is doing some variation of a "Best of 2008". Some of the picks are worthy, others seem like filler.
And then we run into this.

Oh geeze. You guys are killing me here.
"Fable 2, they picked Fable 2. Fable fricking 2. What in the wide world of sports would lead anyone to pick that game as game of the year with MGS4, Fallout 3 and other great titles clearly outclassing Fable 2 in every way."
So, not only do they bring up the "GOTY must win it's categories" shit again, but then they show JUST how biased they are. Apparently, they're mad NOT because both Fallout 3 and Fable 2 are RPGs, but instead that X-play picked Fable 2 over games like Metal Gear Solid 4 or Fallout 3. Because HEAVEN FORBID someone think that a game exists that might actually be better than those stated.
Now, MGS4 and Fallout 3 are awesome games. I'm not denying that. The point is that X-play picked a game that Sarcastic Gamer didn't feel was deserving of GOTY, so they blast it for it. The sad thing is that these things are usually based on opinion. So because someone A) doesn't agree with the pick and B) can't comprehend the logic behind said pick, then they don't know what the hell they're talking about.
